The 52nd Grammy Awards that were 'hosted' by Stephen Colbert were last night, and pretty much full of the pizazz and performance art magic that was somehow missing in past few years. Beyoncé won six awards (the leading amount of Grammys won in one night by a female, so she basically is the matching half to Michael Jackson's accomplishments), Taylor Swift won album of the year (which probably should have gone to Lady Gaga, just based on vocal ability and all-around performance quality).
As for performances, well the highlights include:
Beyoncé's military performance of a medleyof her songs. (Fierce.)
A duet between Lady Gaga and Elton John, (Damn can Gaga sing or what...)
Taylor Swift and Stevie Nicks
The Black Eyed Peas (helllooooo Will.I.Am)
Jamie Fox's "opera" (hahah loved this, with an intro by Robert Downey Jr.)
Pink's astounding aerial/singing feats
and in the middle of the show, a tribute/message sung 'with' Michael Jackson of "Earth Song", in 3D. After in which Lionel Ritchie gave a Lifetime Achievement Award to Michael Jackson, accepted by Prince and Paris.
Oh, and surprise, surprise, we got our fill once again of black leather/studs/hardware/military regalia/armbands/overall glitter. Well, most of that is appropriate of the Grammys anyway, or at least they should be, but all reflective of the events in the last half of last year in fashion and pop culture, er, um deaths.
